Bistro Moncur is an institution in the heart of Woollahra since it opened its doors 27 years ago. It offers a perennially consistent French bistro menu dearly loved by locals and loyal patrons. The venue’s ambiance is reflective of its offering as well as its iconic vaulted ceilings and world-renowned Michael Fitzjames mural.

Michael Fitzjames is an Australian contemporary painter, designer, and illustrator. His work has been included in multiple exhibitions in various Australian galleries since 1996 and is part of the collection in many significant institutions including Australian universities, libraries and city councils. One of his most notable work is the commissioned mural that runs the length of the entire wall at Bistro Moncur. This 15-metre black and white mural has been the restaurant’s centrepiece since 1993 and following Fitzjames’ artistic style, it looks to be diners enjoying a casual meal at their frequented fine dining venue with the dog as the main feature in the centre, which sums up how the locals have since been drawn to Bistro Moncur and its menu that offers the classic favourites combined with a few select seasonal specials.
